Friday 6th March - Sunday 29th March 2009 Michael works in west Cornwall and this show will focus on his abstract work. He is very well regarded and a much collected artist in Cornwall and beyond, having being painting for 20 years or so. He is best known perhaps for his representational works, many of them featuring the seascapes and landscape around his studio. Alongside these works he has developed a new body of ‘pure’ abstract works which demonstrate his ‘tireless quest for balance, equilibrium and meaningful expression’ (Ingrid Heseltine). The heritage of St Ives artists like Heron and Frost is acknowledged by him and there is much of this St Ives tradition in these superb paintings. Bridget is a Norfolk based artist, she has exhibited widely in the East Anglia area as well as in London, including at the Royal Academy summer show. Drawing underlies much of her sculptural work and she was accepted for the prestigious Jerwood Drawing prize in 2007. This show will focus on her sculptures, which take the human form as their focus. She works mainly in clay and bronze and has a wonderful eye for the interrelationships between groups of people as well as individuals. Alun Heslop is a sculptor and furniture designer with a Fine Art background; for the past eleven years has been working as an artist craftsman developing unique and very collectable chairs, benches, stools and sculptures. He was the winner of one of the hugely prestigious 2008 Wood Award prizes (www.woodawards.com) for ‘The Sleeping Dragon’, a privately commissioned 8.5 m long sinuous curving oak sculptural seating piece.
